By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

"The Statesman" Jerry Higbie kept sight of his 2010 goals in last week's racing action as he matched a pair of fourth of place finishes with a ninth place finish at two speedways and in doing so has kept in front of his pursuers remain to remain the current point leader at the speedways where he enjoyed championship status one season ago. Higbie was tremendous in a great drive at the Accord Speedway last Friday evening as he drove from deep in the pack from a 20th place start to record a close fourth place finish when the checkered flag fell on the event. Higbie traveled to the Orange County Fair Speedway for the dual event action on Saturday night and drove to a ninth place finish in the regularly scheduled event and then peddled to a fourth place finish in the held over feature main event to enjoy another solid weekend of weekend of racing endeavors aboard the Hutchings Insurance/Atlas Paving/Mr K's Carpet Service/HigFab sponsored Petruska hot rod.

Higbie began the 30-lap Modified headliner at Accord after starting the hotly contested feature event from deep in the field at 20th starting spot. Bobby Hentschel and Mel Schrufer brought the field down for the start and it was Schrufer leading the way during the first fifteen laps of the main event until expiring an engine and coasting to a stop in turn four. John McGill, who was riding a close second to Schrufer at the time, inherited the lead and when the race went back to green flag racing, flexed the McGill muscles and moved his racer out to an advantage over Brian Malcolm who has driven into the runnerup slot from 10th starting spot. Andy Bachetti, Jerry Higbie, Ronnie Johnson and Mike Ricci were all making their presence known as the laps clicked off as they took off after the leaders. McGill was strong as he pulled away from the field and Malcolm remained solid in second as they crossed under the checkered flag to finish the event. Andy Bachetti was third with Jerry Higbie a close fourth amd Bobby Hentschel completing the top five. Mike Ricci, Ronnie Johnson, Richie Eurich, Sean Gunther and Danny Creeden completed the top ten.
