GOSHEN, NY-- Keeping Pace With "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Jerry Higbie battled some elements last week in his racing endeavors as the point chases at his regular speedways begin to wind down and power towards the championship evenings at both the Accord and Orange County Fair Speedways with OCFS Championship night hitting on September 4th and the Accord Speedway following a week later on September 10th with their Night of Champions events. As the weekend racing action kicks offs again tonight at the Accord Speedway, Higbie will be looking for some strong performances to keep his foothold on the championships he captured one year ago at both facilities.

Higbie began the 30-lap Modified headliner at Accord last week from deep in the field at 16th position. With a great field of racers in front of him, Higbie worked all angles of the speedway and found he was able to move through traffic cautiously and just as quickly was turned around from the rear with his Petruska hot rod suffering damage to the rear suspension of the race car. Higbie was towed to the pit area for his crew to assess the damage on the race car and see if they could make enough repairs to get him back on the race track. Quick action by the crew had Higbie returning to the speedway without losing a lap but the wounded race car was not at full speed the remainder of the way. Mike Ricci won the event to close in on the point lead enjoyed by Higbie and the next few weeks will be critical with every point becoming more important as the season winds down. Ricci won his second event main event of the season with John McGill in the runner-up role, Rick Mill in third, Andy Bachetti in fourth and Danny Johnson completing the top five. In his wounded racer, Higbie was credited with a 15th place performance.

At OCFS on Saturday evening, Higbie began the feature run from 13th starting position. Higbie felt he had a great car and began to pick off cars as he drove his racer forward in the event. After Higbie made his way into fourth place, the car picked up a miss in the engine department that deprived the car of much horsepower and prevented Higbie the luxury of moving forward for the remainder of the race. Trying to keep the car in the event, Higbie fell to the hard charging Tommy Meier but held his ground to score a fifth place finish in the 30-lap encounter. Bruce Kline captured the win with Meier advancing to the runner-up role, Chuck McKee in third, Greg Sleight in fourth and Higbie completing the top five.

With the finishes, the lastest in Accord Speedway points now show Higbie still in command with 702 points. Mike Ricci, with the win, has closed the gap bigtime between he and Higbie and is now just 20 points behind Higbie with 682 points. Andy Bachetti picked up some ground with a great perfromance and is third 653 points. Ronnie Johnson is ranked fourth with 559 points but the points have been tough for him to achieve in the past couple of weeks of racing and has the surging Robbie Green now tied with him for fourth place in points with each having scored 559 points to date. Danny Tyler, with 521, Vinny DeCicco and , Richie Eurich both at 484, Brian Malcolm with 480 and Rick Mill with 475 complete the top ten in the points picture. With just four events remaining to determine the new champions at the speedway, every event will require the drivers and their racing equipment to be at their best should they have aspirations for a title. The tough weekly competition at Accord has made qualifying for a feature so tough that every driver has to be on his A-Game just to make it into the main attraction and a poor performance at this point in the season is likely to squash any hopes for a title.

The updated OCFS points picture has Higbie leading the way with 730 points. Tommy Meier is 25 points behind Higbie in second place at 705 points. Chuck McKee had rallied to rank third with 628 markers. Danny Creeden fell to fourth place over the weekend with 624 points and Craig Mitchell has gained ground and shares fith with Jack Brown with each scoring 575 taillies. Jeremy Markle, Chris Whitehead, Jesse Kline and Chris Shultz complete the top ten in points.

The Atlas Paving Team utilized the services of Teo for the Chassis and the engine wizardry of the JPM and Precision to provide the horsepower for the race cars. Teh new Ford motor is from the Rousch Shops. A small block motor will be utilized for the Accord events and a Big Block motor is set between the rails for OCFS. The Higbie Family owned signature numbered 97 cars will be serving as backup equipment in case of any emergencies and may be pressed into service at any time. Both cars are Bicknell Chassis and have Precision Engines to supply the needed horsepower. Long time Higbie sponsors Mid-City Transit, Team Shaver, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing, Bada Bing Pizza and GA Motorsports Media will be assisting the Higbie Team efforts. The Mike Petruska owned 66 car has added the services of Hutchings Insurance Agency based out of Middletown, New York as one of the main sponsors of the race car and Mr K's Carpet Service has been added to the growing list of sponsors for the team.

Higbie's business, Hig-Fab, has been super busy throughout the season but is still making appointments for race cars to be re-furbished for the upcoming season ending special events that will complete 2010 racing season. GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Adds Accord Speedway Win And Fourth Place At Orange County To Complete Great Weekend In Racing
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Jerry Higbie found the winning formula last Thursday evening at the Orange County Fair Speedway when he drove the Mike Petruska owned Atlas Paving/Hutchings Insurance/Mr K's Carpet Service hot rod to a spectacular win in the Hard Clay Challenge event at Orange County Fair Speedway and then backed up that fine performance by capturing his second win of the season one day later at the Accord Speedway. Higbie completed his weekend schedule by grabbing a fourth place finish in the Big Block main event on Saturday evening back at OCFS despite having a wounded racer at his disposal after an early race skirmish. With the win, Higbie keeps a solid foothold on the two titles he hopes to retain at his two regular racing venues.

Higbie began the 30-lap Modified headliner at Accord from deep in the field at 13th position. With a great field of racers in front of him, Higbie worked all angles of the speedway and found he was able to move through the tight traffic no matter where he placed the Petruska hot rod on his way forward. Danny Creeden had led from lap-11 to 13 when a caution was displayed. Creeden was then placed back two positions for jumping the prior restart and the move established Higbie at the point for the next restart. Higbie drove away from the field when the lights went green as he clicked off some impressive 13.1 second laps as he drove to his second win of the season at Accord. Mike Ricci had an outstanding drive from the rear of the field to finish in the runner-up role with John Ferrier racing to third, Brian Malcolm in fourth and Robbie Green nailing down fifth place.

At OCFS on Saturday evening, Higbie began the feature run from fifth position. Early in the event another competitor made contact with Higbie when a caution light came on and did some damage to the rear suspension on the race car. Higbie weathered the problem once the race went back to green as he tried to hang on to a top finish with the point lead in the balance. Tim Hindley had a rocket ship at his disposal and drove away from everyone on his was to the victory at the speedway. Bob McGannon was the runner-up with Tommy Meier rallying from deep in the field to finish third with Higbie in fourth and Jeremy Markle driving to fifth place.

With the great weekend of finishes, the lastest in Accord Speedway points now show Higbie in command with 674 points. Mike Ricci charged into the runner-up role with 622 points and Andy Bachetti was hurt big time with an early dismissal for the event and falls to third place in the points chase with 603 points. Ronnie Johnson also took a hit in the standings as he is still ranked fourth with 521 points but the points have been tough for him to achieve in the past couple of weeks of racing. Robbie Green has returned to the top five with a couple of solid outings and his fifth place run on Friday allowed him to separate from his nearest rivals as he has now scored 515 points. Danny Tyler, Vinny DeCicco, Richie Eurich, Brian Malcolm and Scott Ferrier Rick Mill complete the top ten in the points picture. With just five events remaining to determine the new champions at the speedway, every event will require the drivers and their racing equipment to be at their best should they have aspirations for a title. The tough weekly competition at Accord has made qualifying for a feature so tough that every driver has to be on his A-Game just to make it into the main attraction.

The updated OCFS points picture has Higbie leading the way with 678 points. Tommy Meier is the runnerup with 647. Danny Creeden moved into third place over the weekend with 582 points as Chuck McKee suffered a poor outing and falls to fourth with 578 points. Jack Brown completes the top five in points. Craig Mitchell, Chris Whitehead, Jeremy Markle, Tim Hindley are sixth through ninth places at this time and Jesse Kline and Chris Shultz are tied for tenth place to complete the top ten in points.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Snatches 10 G's In Hard Clay Challenge Triumph
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Jerry Higbie found the winning formula last evening at the Orange County Fair Speedway as he drove the now Ford powered Mike Petruska owned Atlas Paving/Hutchings Insurance/Mr K's Carpet Service hot rod to a spectacular win in the Hard Clay Challenge event hosted by Mike Sanchelli. Higbie, who has remained on track with the goals he set for the 2010 season, earned $10,000.00 for his winning efforts and the win sends him into the weekend of racing leadiing in the points at both of his regular racing venues, the Accord and OCFS racetracks. After a tough outing at Accord last week where his healthy point lead suffered after an early dismissal from the event, Higbie will be looking to regain some of the lost points back tonight with a solid outing in the event. With OCFS just running 358 Modifieds a week ago, Higbie raced to a third place finish in that event behind winner Tommy Meier and Jeff Heotzler and will be set for Saturday evening when the Big Blocks return to the speedway.

Higbie began the 40-lap Modified headliner at OCFS from sixth starting place. With his vast experience at competing at OCFS, the team chose a harder compound tire to race with and the early laps of the event had Higbie maintaining his position in the event. He inched his way forward with a pass of Matt DeLorenzo and a few laps later Billy Decker was off the pace with motor woes. Higbie moved past Dave Camara and was able to work the low side of Brett Hearn to move into the runnerup slot. The fight was now between two of the top wheelmen on the East Coast and the pair hit lapped traffic with neither star giving an inch. Higbie seized the lead and lost it one lap later to Varin but by lap-30 had established himself as the pointman. Higbie, Varin and the hard charging "Wild Child" Andy Bachetti made it a three way battle for the lead with Higbie holding off all advances to gain the win and the big bucks posted for the event. Bachetti was the runnerup with Varin in third, Hearn in fourth and DeLorenzo completing the top five.

The lastest in Accord Speedway points now show Higbie out in front with 614 points. Andy Bachetti has moved into sole possession of the second place position with 582 markers. Mike Ricci, who hase been changing rides in recent weeks to keep pace in the point structure, is now third with 566 tallies and Ronnie Johnson is ranked fourth with 501 points. Robbie Green has returned to the top five with a couple of solid outings and 467 points. Danny Tyler, Vinny DeCicco, Richie Eurich, Brian Malcolm and Rick Mill complete the top ten in the points picture. With just six events remaining to determine the new champoions at the speedway, every event will require the drivers and their racing equipment to be at their best should they have aspirations for a title. The tough weekly competition at Accord has made qualifying for a feature so tough that every driver has to be on his A-Game just to make it into the main attraction.

The updated OCFS points picture has Higbie leading the way with 625points. Tommy Meier is the runnerup with 590. Chuck McKee is third in points with 556 markers and Danny Creeden is fourth with 544 points. Jack Brown completes the top five in points. Craig Mitchell, Chris Whitehead, Jeremy Markle, Jesse Kline and Ric Hill complete the top ten in points.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Rolls A Pair Of Two's To Lead In Accord And OCFS Point Chases
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

"The Statesman" Jerry Higbie enjoyed a great weekend of racing in the past week as he drove the Hutchings Insurance/Atlas Paving/Mr K's Carpet Service/HigFab sponsored Petruska hot rod to a pair of runnerup finishes, the first coming on Friday evening at the Accord Speedway and then following up the performance with another runnerup performance coming on Saturday evening at the Orange County Fair Speedway. The weekend of racing proved to be the balcony box tickets for the team as Higbie strengthened his point lead at Accord and was able to regain the point lead at OCFS with his solid racing efforts. Higbie would like nothing better than to succcessfully defend the titles he captured a season at both of his regular home tracks.

Higbie began the 30-lap Modified headliner at Accord after starting the star-studded feaure event from deep in the field at 15th position. Higbie worked his way methodically through the fast line of rush hour traffic to race into the top five by the midway point in the event. Higbie had a front row seat as he inched his way closer to the leaders that had Brian Malcolm gunning for a victory and the racing physician Danny Johnson running Malcolm out of racing real estate. On lap twenty three Johnson took over the lead as he muscled his way past Malcolm on the front stretch. Malcolm's machine was wounded from the contact and he fell from contention and eventaully out of the competition before the race ended. On the restart on lap 26, Johnson remained in command and led Higbie in the final laps to claim his second win of the 2010 racing season with Higbie a close second. The rejuvenated Robbie Green was third with hard riding Ronnie Johnson in fourth and Mike Ricci completing the top five. The second five were led by Andy Bachetti with Mel Schrufer, Richie Eurich, Danny Creeden and Greg Hastie completing the top ten.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Finishes Third In Accord Main But Loses Two Cars In Mishaps At OCFS
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Newburgh, New York Modified super shoe Jerry Higbie was pleased with his performance last Friday evening at the Accord Speedway as he drove the Mike Petruska owned Hutchings Insurance/Atlas Paving sponsored speed buggy to a podium finish after starting the star-studded feaure event from 15th place. Higbie worked his way steadlily through the fast line of traffic to earn his second consecutive third place run at the Accord facility and with it maintaining the point lead he has acquired over the 44 entries that have competed at the speedway in 2010. Bolstered by the performance, Higbie was set to tackle the Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday night where he also came in to the event leading in the current points picture. What was to unfold for the Higbie Racing Team can only be described as the week from Hell.

While racing for position on Saturday evening, hard contact from another competitor caused major damage to the primary Big Block Modified in the Petruska stable. The early dismissal from the event put a damper on the evening as Higbie saw his point lead go away as Tommy Meier moved to the top spot. Higbie was credited with a 14th place finish in the event that was captured by veteran campaigner Richie Eurich. The Higbie team went to work to ready another race car for battle for the Wednesday SDS show at OCFS. Higbie qualified in 11th place in the time trials and was to start the feature event from 7th starting position.

The OCFS track was in better form than it had been in previous weeks and Higbie took his time to move past those in front of him to wrestle away the lead on lap-20. Higbie led until a restart bunched the field together for the restart on lap-37. As the green flag waved, Danny Johnson clipped the inside barrier off of turn four and immediately drove across the track, connecting with Higbie and sending the Higbie race car hard into the fence and upside down virtually destroying the race car. Higbie was okay from the hard wreck but the car was a total write off. The loss of two race cars in less that a week certainly has the team scrambling at the shop to evaluate what can be saved and what must be trashed from the two unfortunate incidents. Higbie was credited with a 23rd place finish in the event won by Jimmy Phelps.

Higbie was placed in 15th position on the starting grid for the feature headliner at Accord. Andy Bachetti had the hot hand and was quick to get to the point to lead before the halfway point of the event. Danny Johnson was making a house and challenged Bachetti with Higbie a close third as the laps wound down. Bachetti captured the main and with it becoming the first Accord Modified driver to claim a second in the 2010 racing season. Danny Johnson finished second with Higbie in third place. Danny Creeden was fourth in his best Accord outing since returning to the speedway a few weeks ago and Rick Mill completed the top five. Brian Malcolm was sixth in a stout run from 24th starting place and Vinny DeCicco, invader Stewart Friesen, Geoff Quackenbush and John McGill completed the top ten spots.

The lastest in Accord Speedway points show Higbie out front with 394 with Andy Bachetti now in command of the runnerup slot with 336 tallies. Mike Ricci is third with 322 markers and Ronnie Johnson is ranked fourth with 289 tallies. Danny Tyler replaces Robbie Green in the top five with 287 points. The remainder of the top ten is Robbie Green, Rick Mill, Vinny DeCicco, Bobby Hentschel and Scott Ferrier. Long time Higbie sponsors Mid-City Transit, Team Shaver, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing, Bada Bing Pizza and GA Motorsports Media will be assisting the Higbie Team efforts. The Mike Petruska owned 66 car has added the service of Hutchings Insurance Agency based out of Middletown, New York as one of the main sponsors of the race car and Mr K's Carpet Service has been added to the growing list of sponsors for the team.

By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

The stellar field of Modified talent that has converged on the Accord Speedway grounds each week has kept the fans on the edge of their seats through the first seven weeks the 2010 racing season. Each racing event thus far has produced a different Modified winner as the talented driving roster is just that deep. One thing that hasn't changed from a season a go has been the ability week of Newburgh, New York Modified super shoe Jerry Higbie to sit at the top of the point rankings in his concentrated effort to lay claim to back to back titles at the speedway in the VP Fuels/ Rhinebeck Ford Modified headline division at the at the Ulster County speedplant. Last Friday evening Higbie drove his Hutchings Insurance/Atlas Paving/HigFab/Mr K's Carpet Cleaning Service race machine to a tough third place finish at Gary Palmer's quarter-mile raceway to increase his point lead in the seasonal points battle.

Higbie qualified third in his heat event at Accord on Friday night and placed him in 15th position on the starting grid for the feature headliner. Garden Stater Rick Wegner took the early lead by the time the 24-car starting field headed down the backstretch on the first lap of the event. Wegner was strong and set the tone of the event by holding the challenges from all comers as he paced the field. Veteran driving star Richie Eurich began to challenge Wegner for the lead spot by lap-10 but Wegner was running an excellent line from the top of the raceway to hold Eurich at bay. Wegner bobbled in turn three and Eurich moved to the bottom of the raceway to pull up along side of Wegner on lap-15 and the pair raced side by side for four laps until Eurich was finally shown as the leader of the event on lap-20. Danny Johnson and Jerry Higbie were making waves of their own from deep in the field and soon would become major players in the final outcome of the exciting feature race. Johnson moved into third place with Higbie fourth as the laps clicked off on the scoreboard. Johnson disposed of Wegner and set sail for Eurich. Higbie also moved past Wegner and was closing on the leaders. Johnson got by Eurich down the backstretch of the final lap only to have Eurich rebound and regain the lead back in turn three. Johnson drove to the top of the raceway and rocketed off of turn four to slip by Eurich to win one of the most exciting featured events ever held at the Accord facility. Higbie was a close third with Rick Wegner finishing fourth in a great drive and Bobby Hentschel completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Mel Schrufer, Mike Ricci, Sean Gunther, Jeff Richardson and Danny Creeden.

GOSHEN, NY-- "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie Dynamic In Recording First Accord Speedway Win Of Season And Recaptures Point Lead
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Newburgh, New York Modified super shoe Jerry Higbie turned the prior week's disappointment into a joyous victory lane celebration last Friday evening at the Accord Speedway when he drove his Hutchings Insurance/Atlas Paving/HigFab/Mr K's Carpet Cleaning Service hot rod to a convincing win at Gary Plamer's quarter-mile speedplant. The win for Higbie was the second of the season for him after having already scored a win at Orange County early in the season, but the first triumph for him at Accord as he defends his championship title he captured a season ago. With the win, Higbie vaulted back to the top of the charts in the current point standings at Accord as speedway rivals Andy Bachetti and Mike Ricci both suffered early dismissals from the event on Friday. The event proved to be the only weekend racing action for the Higbie Racing Team as the Saturday night competition at Orange County Fair Speedway was curtailed due to rain.

Higbie qualified second in his heat event at Accord on Friday night and was placed him 14th position on the starting grid for the feature headliner. Tom Hindley took the lead at the drop of the green and withstood some early pressure from Jeff Richardson to move away from the field. Higbie was fast on the bottom of the speedway and just as quick when he changed lanes and rolled to the topside of the speedway as now he was chasing both Hindley and Danny Tyler who raced into the runnerup spot from his eighth starting position. Higbie disposed of Tyler on lap-11 and drove to the bottom of Hindley on lap-13 on turn three to claim the lead as lap-14 was displayed to the Modified field. Once In front, Higbie raced out to a solid advantage and went to capture his first Accord Speedway. The happy crew and many well wishers joined with Higbie celebration at the Lucal Oil Products Winners Circle for quite some time after the race was completed. Danny Tyler eventually worked his way past Hindley to claim the runnerup slot with Ronnie Johnson in third place after an extraordinary run from the rear after going pitside. Tom Hindley was fourth and Jeff Richardson completed the top five.

The win catapulted Higbie back to the top of the driver point's chart with the victory. The lastest points show Higbie out front with 290 with Mike Ricci moving into the runnerup role with 254. Andy Bachetti is third with 253 tallies and Ronnie Johnson is ranked fourth with 239 markers. Robbie Green completes the top five and is fifth with 231 tallies. The tough weekly competition at Accord has changed the point picture back and forth in the past few weeks and it sets up the drama for the speedway title as one event changes the point totals of the season in a hurry. With OCFS dark last week the updated OCFS points picture has Higbie on top with 295 tallies. Danny Creeden is second with 284. Tommy Meier is ranked third 283 points and Chuck McKee is fourth with 257 markers. Tim Hindley completes the top five with 242 points.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Solid At OCFS With Fifth And Third Place Finishes In Weekend Performances
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Newburgh, New York Modified super shoe Jerry Higbie had disappointment fall his way last Friday evening at the Accord Speedway as while in a top five position was turned around on a restart and was bounced off the inside barrier ending his night with front end damage to his race car. Higbie found the following night at Orange County Fair Speedway to be more to his liking as in a pair of feature events for the Modifieds, Higbie drove to two solid performances that netted him a third and fifth place finishes in the main events. The good effort keeps Higbie on top of the points at OCFS while his 17th place finish at Accord dropped Higbie from the point lead at his Friday night jaunt.

Higbie qualified fourth in his heat event at Accord on Friday night and placed him 14th position on the starting grid for the feature headliner. Higbie was fast on the bottom of the speedway and moved through the field quickly to reach the top five by the midway point of the event. After a wreck on lap-18 that had Neil Harris's race car requiring two wreckers for removal from the race track, the field came down for the restart of the feature event. Things happened quickly as Higbie was plowed into from the rear on the restart and was forced into the inside concrete barrier resulting in front end damage and requiring a tow truck to remove the damaged racer from the speedway. When the racing resumed, Mike Ricci would eventually overtake early leader Brian Malcolm and go on to record his victory at Accord in some time. Malcom was second in a great run with Tony Kowalchuk finishing in third place. Andy Bachetti and John McGill completed the top five running order. The turn of events would prove to be costly for Higbie as the new points picture at the speedway show Andy Bachetti as the new leader with 233 point to Higbie's 230 tallies in second place with Mike Ricci now in third with 228 markers. Robbie Green with 206 points and Ronnie Johnson with 187 complete the top five in Accord points.

The Orange County Fair Speedway hosted a pair of feature events for their weekly racing action on Saturday evening. In the make-up event from May 8th, Tommy Meier showed the hot hand as he drove to victory in an accident marred event that had only eleven of the race starters finishing the feature run. Jeremy Markle was the runnerup with Jerry Higbie in third place and Craig Mitchell behind him in fourth. Jesse Kline completed the top five running order. The second main event was the final event of the night on the OCFS schedule of events. Higbie started deep in the field and with the track once again in unruly condition, the action was fast but advancing in the race would be tough. Chris Whitehead was in for the win with Danny Creeden rallying for second. Tim Hindley was third with Tommy Meier recording a fourth place finish and Jerry Higibe finishing in fifth place. The updated OCFS points picture has Higbie on top with 295 tallies. Danny Creeden is second with 284. Tommy Meier is ranked third 283 points and Chuck McKee is fourth with 257 markers. Tim Hindley completes the top five with 242 points.

The success from a season ago has been paramount in the career of Jerry Higbie. The two championship titles earned in 2009 at Accord and OCFS has earned Higbie the distinction to sit among the top drivers in the Northeast today. Higbie has enjoyed a great career since joining the racing ranks in 1991 with his education immediately coming in the Modified ranks. Jerry's Dad and Uncle had been long-time car owners in racing and his Dad brought Jerry along cautiously and by 1994 Jerry had captured his first Championship crown at the Accord Speedway. Higbie has added many laurels to his racing resume to date as he has captured three 358 Small Block titles at OCFS with championships coming in 2004 and 2005 and again in 2008.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Pedals Hard To Finish Third At Accord And Sixth At OCFS In Weekend Performances
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Newburgh, New York Modified super shoe Jerry Higbie had his work cut out for himself over the weekend as he was fored to come from deep in the pack starting spots on Friday and Saturday night to score a thrid place finish at the Accord Speedway after starting in 17th starting position for the start of the event. Saturday night was a just as tough as Higbie began his drive from the 14th starting position at the Orange County Fair Speedway and progressed to sixth when the checkered flag fell on the event. With the solid finishes, Higbie remains in the point lead at both of his weekly tracks and with another big weekend of racing coming up is hoping to continue his fine performances to remain in front of the tough competition he faces at both facilities.

Higbie was in the second modified heat at Accord on Friday night and just missed the transfer by one. Starting on the pole in the consolation event, Higbie moved to the front at the drop of the green and wired the field to earn a 17th starting position for the main event. An early jingle in the event forced Higbie to the rear of the field and when the race restarted Higbie found a home on the bottom of the raceway and began to pick his way through the field. Higbie was fast on the bottom of the speedway and moved through the field to reach the top five by the midway point of the event. Higbie worked the bottom of the raceway like a man possessed and by lap-24 was in third place and still hugging the inside rail while leader Andy Bachetti and chaser Mike Ricci were duking it out up top. Lapped traffic came into play in the waning stages of the event but Bachetti was up to the task and scored his first win of the season at Accord. Rcci was second with Higbie in third, David Hinsch in fourth and Rick Mill in fifth. Hinsch was found to be light at the scales and disqualified and Rick Mill and now Mark Pullen completed the top five. Neil Harris, John Dixon, Richie Eurich, Bobby Hentschel and Greg Hastie completed the top ten. Higbie earned the hard charger of the evening award with his stellar drive through the tough Accord field.

The Accord points changed a great deal after the running of the event but with his solid finish, Higbie remains the early season leader in the point standings at the speedway with 204. Andy Bachetti is coming off of the win moves into second with 183 tallies. Robbie Green is third with 170 points and Mike Ricci is fourth with 168 markers. Ronnie Johnson completes the top five with 166 points at his new Friday night home.

The Orange County Fair Speedway hosted their weekly event on Saturday evening and Higbie drove from 8th spot to third place in his heat event and that lined him up in 14th starting place for the main event. The speedway is still going through the rigors of a re-surfacing project and the track was narrow and didn't make for much opportunity to pass during the race. Higbie was cautious and calculating and brought the car up to sixth position when the checkered flag fell with Jeremy Markle winning the main and Jesse Kline in for second place after leading the first 26-laps of the main event. Chris Shultz was third with Rick Mill, Tommy Meier and Higbie following. OCFS points has Higbie with 194, leading by a small margin over Chuck McKee who has 187. Danny Creeden with 181 is third and Rick Mill with 174 and Tommy Meier with 173 competing the top five.

GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Rallies To Fifth Place Finish In Accord Speedway Racing Action
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

New York Modified talent Jerry Higbie made a magnificent recovery from a early jingle in the Accord Speedway Modified feature last Friday night when he was forced to go pitside to repair the bodywork on his race machine. Higbie returned to the speedway at the tail end of the field and did a masterful job at coming from deep in the pack to score a solid fifth place finish and in doing so is the early season point leader at the Ulster County speedplant.

Higbie was in the fourth heat of the talent laden fourth heat of competition and was among the many top stars who were forced to the consolation events. Higbie finished his consi run with a second place finish to winner Ronnie Johnson. Higbie began the feature event from 20th starting place but early on was involved in the incident that sent him pitside. Rejoining the field, Higbie missed a backstretch wreck in the next couple of laps and when the racing went back to green, Higbie was fast on the bottom of the speedway and quickly moved into the top ten by the halfway mark. In the final fifteen laps, Higbie gained another five places with some fine driving. Clinton Mills was the feature winner with Mike Ricci in the runnerup slot. Ronnie Johnson was third from 18th starting place and Robbie Green was fourth. Higbie drove from 23rd place when he returned to the speedway to garner a fifth place finish. With the solid finish, Higbie is now the early season leader in the points at the speedway. Robbie Green is second with Ronnie Johnson third at his new Friday night home.

The Orange County Fair Speedway didn't make curfew on Saturday evening and the event will be a run at a date yet to be determined. This weekend will find the Higbie team back at Accord on Friday evening and Higbie's Hig Fab business will be sponsoring the Saturday night action at Orange County along with Hutchings Insurance. The event will provide a qualified spot for the Friends of Mike Race at the New Egypt Speedway to be held on July 31st.

Higbie will be hoping his good fortune continues with the new racing season ahead. Higbie returns with much the same arsenal of equipment he drove last year for after a mid-season pairing with New Jersey based car owner MIke Petruska and his Atlas Paving sponsored number 66 Teo/JPM race car, the team clicked immediately and Higbie went on to record a great deal of success the remainder of the season. The season also included a return to the Moody Mile at Syracuse for Higbie and after qualifying in the top six for the event, suffered the consequences of an exploded tire that saw him make a couple of pits stops to remedy the problem and then go hands up on the wheel to drive through the field and work his way back to a solid seventh place finish when the checkered flag fell on the event.

"The Statesman" Jerry Higbie remained his consistent self in past weekend racing action as he scored a third place finish on Friday evening at Gary Palmer's Ulster County Accord Speedway playground and then overcame a miriad of difficulties to score another third place finish at the Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday evening. Higbie began the feature headliner from deep in the field at Accord on Friday evening as he rolled off in 14th starting spot. While all eyes were focused on the Hearn/Schrufer battle shaping up front at the speedway, Higbie was slowly picking off car after car on his way to the front. The longer the race remained green the faster the car became and Higbie withstood some late pressure from Andy Bachetti in the remaining laps to claim his second consecutive third place finish at Accord and in the process became the early season point leader at the Accord facility. Brett Hearn finally overcame Mel Schrufer to claim the victory and Danny Tyler was impressive in gaining a second place finish in the event with Higbie in for third. Andy Bachetti was fourth with Jeff Richardson completing the top five. Richie Eurich, Vinny DeCicco, Brian Malcolm, Robbie Green and Scott Ferrier completed the top ten.

At the Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday evening, Higbie began his feature run from 15th starting place. A lap ten skirmish found Higbie caught up in it and he was forced to the rear for the restart. Three laps later a flat right rear tire slowed down the Higbie effort. Once again the hard-working team was able to make repairs and have Higbie rejoin the tail end of the field for the restart. Higbie drove through with the field in the remaining laps of the event and did a masterful piece of driving around the deep rutty raceway and was able to climb to third place when the checkered flag fell to winner Tim Hindley and second place man Danny Creeden. Chuck McKee was fourth with Clinton Mills completing the top five. Grant Hilfiger, Jackie Brown, Richie Eurich, Joe Puzzella and Craig Mitchell completed the top ten running order.

With the very busy 2010 racing season now underway, "The Statesman" is confident the season will get better and better as the season progresses. Kicking off the Accord Speedway season with the two third place finishes the first two weeks of the season has proved to be a great start at Accord. While Higbie has secured a win at OCFS this season it was from an event one year ago and will not figure in the season points in 2010. The concern right now for the team is the high number of racing parts they have gone through in 2010 at OCFS due to the unruly racing surface that has caused most of the teams broken parts in one form or another. It is hoped that with the good weather this week, the facility will be whipped into shape for this week's racing action.

The success from a season ago has been paramount in the career of Jerry Higbie. Higbie has enjoyed a great career since joining the racing ranks in 1991 with his education immediately coming in the Modified ranks. Jerry's Dad and Uncle had been long-time car owners in racing and his Dad brought Jerry along cautiously and by 1994 had captured his first Championship crown at the Accord Speedway. Higbie has added many laurels to his racing resume to date as he has captured three 358 Small Block titles at OCFS with championships coming in 2004 and 2005 and again in 2008. With the two titles captured in 2009 to add to his racing portfolio, Higbie has earned the distinction to sit among the upper echelon of the Modified rankings in the country today.

The Atlas Paving Team will have three cars for Jerry to choose from once the new season gets underway. All of the cars are Teo Chassis and the engine wizardry of the JPM Shop will provide the horsepower for the race cars. A small block motor will be utilized for the Accord events and a Big Block motor will go between the rails for OCFS. The remaining car will be utilized for special select shows. The Higbie Family owned signature numbered 97 cars have also been readied for the new season and will serve as backup equipment in case of any emergencies that may crop during the season. The Mike Petruska owned 66 car has added the service of Hutchings Insurance Agency based out of Middletown, New York as one of the main sponsors of the race car and Mr K's Carpet has been added to the growing list of sponsors for the team.

Higbie's business, Hig-Fab, has been super busy during the off-season but is still making appointments for race cars to be re-furbished for the 2010 racing season. With many of the racers seeking to stay within the restraints of their tightening budgets, many of the racers have opted to retain their current equipment and have Hig-Fab performing their magic to update the race cars. GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Rolls Out Spare To Snare Big Block Win At OCFS And Opens Weekend With 3rd Place Showing At Accord Speedway - By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

"The Statesman" Jerry Higbie kicked off the defense of his Championship title from a season ago at the Accord Speedway as he drove to a third place performance for the opening night event that had outside invader Ronnie Johnson cashing in for the win and the $2,000.00 paycheck that went along with it. After capturing a heat race win, Higbie lined up in third place to start the 30-lap main event. Falling back to fourth in the initial laps, Higbie found the low side of the raceway to his liking as he kept pace with Ronnie and Danny Johnson. Higbie had a great seat in the event as he surveyed the action in front of him as "DJ" would try one line after the next in an effort to track down "RJ" who was perched at the top of the raceway and driving a flawless race. Ronnie Johnson scored his first Accord win with the persistent Danny Johnson in for second place money. Higbie was third with Robbie Green driving from the back to finish fourth and Neil 'The Wheel' Harris share completing the top five running order.

At the Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday evening, Higbie ran away with his heat event after starting from ninth spot and was to start from 16th position in the main event. Four laps into the feature event, a skirmish in front of him blocked the track leaving Higbie no place to escape and he got caught up in the mishap leading to an early dismissal and a 19th place finish in the event. Chuck McKee won the event with Chris Whitehead in for a solid finish in the runnerup slot. Ric Hill was third and Tommy Meier and Craig Mitchell completed the top five.

In the meantime the Petruska Team went to work and deemed the primary car down for the evening. Undaunted and having the luxury of an additional race car in the rack, the team went to work and unloaded the spare racer for the make-up feature from a season ago. Higbie started third in the event and took his time on the rough racing surface to find the right time to make his move on the track. By the midway point of the event, Higbie found the line he liked and captured the lead and went to record the race victory. Bob McGannon was the runnerup with Chris Whitehead turning in another fine performance with a third place run. The crafty veteran Richie Eurich was fourth and Jimmy Johnson rounded out the top five running order. The Petruska/Higbie Team was elated over the come back from adversity triumph at OCFS but well knowing the race shop will be bustling this week to replace all of the parts destroyed over the weekend on the race cars.

With the very busy 2010 racing season now underway, "The Statesman" can reflect a bit on last week's showing. Kicking off the Accord Speedway season with a third place finish on Friday evening was a great start at Accord, but the early departure at OCFS may prove to hinder Higbie as the season progresses. The 2009 season was spectacular for Higbie as he captured the driving titles at both of his regular speedways and also captured the big season ending events at both facilities with big wins coming at the King of the Catskills at Accord and the Eastern States 200 at OCFS. Higbie also captured the prestigious Joe Winne Memorial event at Accord for the second consecutive season. Beside the regular weekly diet of Accord and OCFS, Higbie will go on the road more often in 2010 as the team will attempt to compete in as many of the ROC events as possible and with some select SDS events added in such as the Big Show II at OCFS and a possible return to the Moody Mile in October.

GOSHEN, NY-- "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie Scores Runnerup Finish At OCFS Opener; Regular Schedule Kicks-In This Weekend. - By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

"The Statesman" Jerry Higbie kicked off the defense of his share of the Orange County Fair Speedway Modified title last Saturday evening with a solid run in the 30-lap main event to finish in the runnerup slot behind Lebanon Valley Speedway invader Brett Hearn. Hearn started the event from the pole and Higbie lined lined up along side of him for the lid-lifter at the speedway. Hearn jumped out to the early lead in the event while Higbie lost a couple of spots early on by slipping up a bit high in turn one and then had to go to work to grab back the spots he lost. Higbie climbed his way back into the runnerup slot by lap-12 and tried various lines on the less than smooth raceway to close the distance to the leader Hearn. During the remainder of the event, Higbie was able to show the nose of his race car to Hearn but couldn't gain the needed bite to pull even with him to make a bid for the lead. Hearn was in for the win with Higbie in for the runnerup slot. Jeff Heotzler borrowed one of the Craig Mitchell owned Freedom Plains hot rods and drove it a third place finish and Rick Mill and Ric Hill completed the top five running order. Higbie also captured his heat event during the evening.

The event kicked off what will be a very busy 2010 racing season of competition for "The Statesman" as Higbie is ready and well prepared to defend the Accord Speedway Modified title he captured in 2009 and the 2009 Orange County Fair Speedway Modified title he shared with Chuck McKee. The 2009 season for Higbie was spectacular as he captured the driving titles at his two regular speedways and also captured the big season ending events at both facilities with big wins coming at the King of the Catskills at Accord and the Eastern States 200 at OCFS.
